Rare Air | 36x36 | Framed
This piece is a portrayal of Michael Jordan’s gravitational talent as he floats over Mars. My inspiration came from his book Rare Air, which showed the world unseen footage that was captured during his prime. As I dusted off each page, I was motivated to create a unique viewpoint of MJ beyond his most acclaimed accomplishments that have been illustrated numerous times. I then envisioned the setting of outer space because of his role in the movie Space Jam and in Spike Lee’s visual productions that featured Marvin the Martian. In order to create depth off of the canvas, I graffitied Jordan on the backside of acrylic plexiglass. I then placed the plexiglass on a textured canvas of my depiction of Mars. This multi-dimensional technique was the final touch needed to bring this masterpiece to life.
